Almaty, Kazakhstan

Kazakhstan is emblematic of humanity’s ever-continuing insertion into once-‘natural’ spaces. It is a low-density Central Asian country that has changed considerably since its most recent independence, with remnants of the Soviet era mixing with hyper-modern projects and swaths of natural space that continue to be impinged upon long after the Aral Sea began disappearing in the 1960s. This human insertion is never far from my mind and affects how I see and compose photographs of the world.
