Artist’s Statement
The combination of computer technology with photography has produced great creative synergy and also a new artistic role. I think of myself not primarily as a photographer but as a visual artist who uses photographs as raw material to produce an image of something that never existed in nature. This photo was taken at Gilroy Gardens, Santa Clara County, California.

James Curtis is a visual artist who creates (mostly) floral images. They begin live as photographs, but he puts them through multiple processes on the computer, and as a result they no longer look like photographs. He holds a PhD from Columbia University, and taught for 31 years at the University of Missouri-Columbia. He is now a Professor Emeritus, which is why he has time to create floral images.
