A Simple Revolt

This piece “A simple revolt” is part of an ongoing series named “Anam Orga” (Irish for Golden soul), which is based on the idea of personal kintsugi.
Kintsugi is a Japanese art form where broken pottery is repaired with gold, a process which highlights the damage instead of hiding it, embracing flaws and celebrating them. In this series, I attempt to do this with the self, acknowledging damage, recognizing the value and growth in these experiences, and in doing so attempting to heal. Much of my work involves layering, using botanical monoprints, found paper and images in a collage, which I then erode in places. I consider this as a kind of excavation, revealing the hidden depths and core issues which can cause these cracks in ourselves.
